Meic Stephens

Meic Stephens was a prolific Welsh literary editor, journalist, translator, obituarist and poet. He studied at Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities, and at the University of Rennes in Brittany. He established the Triskel Press in Merthyr Tydfil, and in 1965 he began the periodical, Poetry Wales. He learnt Welsh as an adult, and became an active member of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Cymraeg and of Plaid Cymru. He was Literature Director of the Welsh Arts Council, Welsh Writing in English professor at the University of Glamorgan and Visiting Professor in the English department of Brigham Young, Utah, US. He was Editor of the Companion to the Literature of Wales and died in July, 2018 at the age of 79.
