Denis Dunstone lives in England, but spent his early childhood in Wales, and has written several books about Welsh railways.
He was prompted to make watercolour sketches of churches by the pressures of the COVID lockdown. Escape to a churchyard with pen, paper and camp stool was a relief, and led to the production of a small book covering 50 churches near his home. A larger version, covering much of England, was published in 2023 as "A Church Near You".
The churches of Wales are remarkable buildings; a very important part of our heritage that bear the scars as well as the spirit of history.
If they are to saved for the future, more people must become engaged in their maintenance and protection. This book supports the National Churches Trust and the Friends of Friendless Churches, two organisations that work tirelessly to keep churches and their history alive.
