Dafydd Jenkins
A Londoner by birth, Dafydd Jenkins lived in Ceredigion from 1938 onwards. He read Natural Sciences and Law at Cambridge, was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1934 and joined the South Wales Circuit. He became Organising Secretary for the Welsh Language Petition in 1938, and joined the staff of the Law Department at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1965. He held a personal chair in Legal History and Welsh Law from 1975 until his retirement. As an experienced professional lawyer, his contribution to the study of Welsh Medieval Law has been especially valuable. Dafydd Jenkins has also written in Welsh on a variety of literary and other subjects. He was awarded the Prose Medal at the 1948 National Eisteddfod.
